Inside Kyle Bowman’s Vision for Journey Worship Night with CHAUVET Professional

When lighting designer Kyle Bowman stepped into Journey Worship Night, he knew the goal wasn’t just to light a stage; it was to create an environment that felt both cinematic and worshipful. With over 2,000 people in the room and cameras rolling for a live music video recording, every fixture had to work double duty: immersive for the audience, flawless for the lens.
“We wanted the room to feel dramatic and dynamic while tying in with the massive video walls. The Rogue R2X Washes framed everything nicely, while the Maverick Storm 1 Hybrids gave us gorgeous breakups and wide-open beams.”

That balance between energy and stillness became a defining part of the night.
“For the energetic moments, we leaned on fixture movement and bold beams. When it was time to breathe, we pulled things back with more subtle texture. That contrast helped guide people through the night.”

With 14 Rogue R2X Wash, 10 Rogue R2X Wash VW, and 18 Maverick Storm 1 Hybrids, Bowman found the mix that gave him both coverage and flexibility.
“The R2X Washes gave us all the wash and backlight we needed. But the Storms were the real star—they added width across the rig and could tighten down into beams for those ‘wow’ moments.”

The Storm 1 Hybrids also proved their value during the set’s biggest peaks.
“When we opened up the prisms, they gave us massive, washy looks that still had plenty of punch. Even when layering gobos with prisms, we didn’t lose clarity or brightness.”

Still, finding the right fixture mix wasn’t straightforward.
“We had all these ideas, but couldn’t find a fixture that hit all the marks. Once we landed on the Maverick Storms, it all came together. They not only checked every box, but exceeded expectations.”

For Bowman, the night came down to pairing vision with the right tools, and in this case, the Maverick Storm 1 Hybrids and Rogue R2X Washes delivered the cinematic, worshipful atmosphere that made Journey Worship Night unforgettable.
