TA’IF, SAUDI ARABIA – It came as a surprise to many when USM Alger of Algeria upset heavily favored Al Ahly SC of Egypt at the TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup 2023 to be crowned the king of African football.

The team from Cairo was established as a perennial football (soccer) power, and few expected they would lose to the Algerian underdogs, but surprises were everywhere on the field at the King Fahd Stadium as the teams battled in this 1-0 game.

One thing that did turn out as expected at the iconic event, though it too was full of surprises (but most certainly of the delightful kind!), was the high-energy light and video show, produced by Leap Creative studio, with Frédéric (Aldo) Fayard and his team at Paris-based Concept K that supported the event with pre- and post-game panoramas, as well as a stunning halftime show.

The founder and art director of Concept K, Aldo, along with his team of Theo Broche, Mohamed Almaraihah, served up a beautiful series of colourful looks.

From the moment the teams entered the field flanked by special atmospheric effects as intense light filled the stadium, to the dynamic musical performances at halftime, to the moment the winners received their championship trophy as pyro effect circled the stadium, the Concept K production design underscored the specialness of the event throughout its entirety.

A key contributor to the memorable Concept K design was the collection of 98 CHAUVET Professional Color STRIKE M motorized strobes that were positioned throughout the venue. “The Color STRIKE M fixtures were invaluable,” said Fayard. “We really used them as effects, but also as a base for colors and energy on the music. The contribution was massive. Of course, in general, we absolutely need them to be IP65 rated, because almost all of our projects are outdoors.”

The TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup 2023, was only one of many exciting projects that the Concept K team has done in Saudi Arabia recently. The company with another part of her team (Antoine D’halluin, Simon Fouillet, Tanguy Kopczynski, Kelian Sevrée, Antoine Gasnier), also worked on the Saudi School Tournament at Jeddah King Abdullah Sports City, Benzema arrival at Jeddah King Abdullah Sports City’s Main Stadium, Al Hilal Club New players arrivals at Riyadh King Abdullah Stadium, and the Roshn Saudi League Launch. In true championship form, the Concept K team ensured that all of them were winning events.
