ROTENBURG, GERMANY – Wümme Airport may not be remarkable at first glance, but it has made quite a name for itself in general aviation circles. Located 4km from Rotenburg city center, the historic airfield (it opened in 1936), is directly in the Elbe-Weser triangle between Hamburg, Bremen, and Hanover, making it an ideal refueling stop.

Pilots of private planes often to do more than fill their tanks when they stop at Wümme. Many times, they and their passengers are also interested in filling their stomachs, as the airport has a popular onsite restaurant that features, among other delicacies, spectacular sushi specialties.

The most famous thing about Rotenburg Wümme, however, has nothing to do with aviation, cuisine, or nearby amenities, like the well-known hiking trails around the airport. For two days every year, the airfield is at the center of the EDM-techno music world as the home of the star-studded Ferdinands Felds.

Starting out as a small local DJ gathering in 2015, this event has grown into a major music festival. The 2024 edition, which was headlined by Afrojack and German DJ duo Gestört aber Geil, was no exception.

Enhancing the dynamic atmosphere on the festival’s Main Stage, Terminal 2 Stage, and Terminal 3 Stage was a collection of CHAUVET Professional fixtures supplied by Sound-Patrol Veranstaltungstechnik GmbH.

Overseen by general manager Malte Holsten, the powerful lighting rigs delivered plenty of bold visuals to support the artists on all stages with a lot of room left over to pump up the crowd with some intense audience lighting! Featuring Rogue Outcast 1L Beams and Outcast 2 Hybrids, as well as Maverick Storm 2 BeamWashes, the festival’s fixtures opened a wealth of opportunities for designers to create an array of evocative looks that reflected the music and stage personas of the many different artists.

Thanks to the versatility of the festival’s lighting, the various stages were enlivened with a rainbow of vibrant washes, with no single colour dominating the designs. Oftentimes bold colors overlapped on the stage, endowing it with greater depth and texture. Criss crossing patterns of light also added to the immersive quality of the performances.

Over at the main stage, excitement peaked when aerials and fireworks filled the night sky. The magnificent aerials provided a perfect flourish for a festival that takes place at one of Germany’s most popular airfields.
